What is HD?

HD TV stands for High Definition Television and is a relatively new standard that combines both a high-resolution picture and Dolby Digital Surround Sound to produce an amazing TV experience. The picture quality is crystal clear, incredibly sharp and intensely colorful.

So, what does the different resolutions on TV's mean?

720p

This is the pixel resolution of 1280x720 and is the lower end of HD compatible resolutions more commonly seen in entry level HD TV's.

1080i

1080i offers resolutions of 1980x1080, however, it converys the image in an interlaced format.

1080p

There is a lot of confusion between 1080i and 1080p as both support the same resolution. However, 1080p uses progressive scan technology which gives a smoother image.
